I'M A BELIEVER!
Kenny was astounding.
Two silvers and a bronze this year.
He was on the intermediate run, which is W-A-Y up the mountain, so we couldn't actually watch him, we had to wait until he came back down the hill after his runs. Kate and I went together, Z had baseball practice so he couldn't go. Kate and I had fun in between the skiing, it was a girly weekend. And Special Olympics is...well...special. Truly. There isn't anything like it. I'm working on a slideshow that integrates the photos with the video. We have some great footage of Kenny. But also some great video of a little guy with Downs Syndrome who was just dancing away in between the medal ceremonies. It's such an incredible feeling. And they had some military officers there to give out the medals, and also some of the SeaGals. Anyway, some pictures...

    Great Job Kenny!
    Your pictures are so good -- they always make me feel like I am right there! Special Olympics just gives you a warm feeling down deep in your heart; I can't imagine experiencing it in person. Plus, a girly weekend; what could be better. Thanks for sharing these moments with us my friend.

    Michelle, what a great weekend. Thanks for the pictures. Kenny looks like he really enjoyed it. Waiting for pictures of the "girls weekend" what a fun time.

    I love working on Special Olympics. Even if I don't have an Olympian in my family, my friend's daughter competes. What a blast! Loved your pictures too - though Kenny seems to have stolen my jacket! ;) Congrats, Kenny, on your medals!

    Way to go Kenny!! You are a superstar my friend, there is no way I can even stay on a sled half-way down a hill, let alone on skis. We are proud of you! So glad you had a great girls weekend Shelly, I know that Stacy feels like she misses out sometimes with all the testosterone around here. Take care all of you, and a little early HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Z...for some reason I have an easier time remembering yours than I do my own kids! Guess that's cause it's mine too, so maybe I'm cheating a little there. Have a great great day!!!

    I'm sorry to say that i have more fun falling over, but that's just me. Makes me want to be at the Special Olympics!

    And HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr.Z! Hopefully you haven't grown another foot, or im gonna be very depressed. Maybe i'll send you some special shoes that make you shorter. ;P

Tomorrow is January 2. One of the five happiest days of my life. It's the day Kyle was born. Dave was so excited. All through the pregnancy, Dave was sure this was a girl. Tumor Board

Tuesday, August 17, 2004 1:13 PM CDT We met with doctors at Harborview yesterday. Dave has a new growth in his right frontal lobe. This new growth is very small, but it was not evident at his MRI in May, and shows on the MRI in July. It's quite scary that it has grown so quickly, and is in a new place. It's also scary that it grew while Dave was on temodar (chemo). The doctors from the tumor board are recommending gamma knife. Gamma knife is high intensity radiation that is very accurate and focused on the tumor growth. There are 201 beams aimed at the tumor. (See the main page for a link to information about gamma knife, you have to scroll to the bottom.) On Thursday, August 19, 2004, Dave will undergo gamma knife at Harborview in Seattle. We are hoping that this will halt the growth of the tumor. He will go into the hospital at 7:00 am and they will place a halo or frame around his head, by screwing it into his skull (ouch! Goodbyes

So I had my first Walla Walla goodbyes. The first was my eye doctor, Dr. Poffenroth. He's taken care of my eyes for 25 years. He's more than just an eye doctor.  He's a caring person and a friend. As I left my last appointment, he handed me a card with a referral to a friend of his who practices in Port Angeles. I looked at the card. And realized...I won't see him again. I've been living in a bit of denial. I know.  Big surprise. With all the excitement and chaos of moving, And all the stress of living in limbo, I somehow missed that I'd be leaving some things some people behind. I know I'll be back often. To see my kids and the new grandbaby, friends and family. This fact allowed me to forget... there are some I won't see. Even though we promise to keep in touch, Life has a way of getting busy.
