More Signs of Spring

Hearts all a flutter,
people getting twitterpated,
like Zach and Kate
buying Valentine's presents.

And this flower that came to me at work, with a card: "Dave is thinking of you today. A Friend."

Wow. Thank you, friend, whoever you are. Thank you.

and this...

and this....

Flying baseballs, flying frisbees.
Spring is here.

  1. I had to laugh at the baseball and frisbee castastrophies - kids!!!

I have no doubt that Dave is thinking of you - every day, forever.

Sending many prayers to you and your family

  4. Spring is in the air indeed. The sun is shinning earlier, there are actually birds chirping now in the early morning and the sun is coming through the kitchen window. Oh I love those things and I am sure in some small way the broken window must put a smile on your face :) I know for sure Dave was thinking about you on the 14th and every other day and wishing he could have delivered that rose in person but glad his special delivery arrived!

  5. Okay, my friend, my fellow traveller, Sue...
You know that you're one of my prime suspects. You, along with Dee and Peter W. Or maybe Mindy. Am I close??????

  6. Wish I could claim the thought; not that I didn't think of it, but not me. I think you might be getting warm though! You make me laugh. . . .

  7. Prime suspects for what? Did I miss something? What a beautiful day in Walla Walla. Everyone should be here.
    Happy Spring.

  8. Prime suspects in the infamous rose caper! That anonymous gift that came on Valentine's Day. Could it be you, Kathie??

  9. We bought a Wii on Friday and already I have a light on the ceiling fan broken where it attaches! I am hoping for no more household accidents! But yes, spring is here for sure!
I still can't believe I found one here in town! Good ol' Shopko!!
I actually like this set up! Wireless is wonderful!
I was thinking of you on Valentines day but I am not the rose caper.
Kenny looks awesome! Love the Blue bands! I bet he wears those colors the whole time! No changing his mind.
    Enjoy the long weekend!
    Love Ya!

  10. Guess I was a bit slow on the pick up there. Glad your Valentines Day was special.

  11. Looks like more spamming! What's going on? I wonder if you can add one of those things where you have to type in the letters you see in one of those funky wobbly grid things.

  12. Chelle,

Cannot believe it is spring there, we are still buried in sub zero and snow. Think a trip out your way is warranted! Am actually going to spring training in Phoenix next weekend, that's the closest I'LL be getting to baseball anytime soon!! Love that pic!!
Your rose surprise is lovely, how sweet. So sweet. And yes, Dave was, and is, thinking of you, always! Sending hugs to the Meyer clan!

I got a tattoo.  Christine actually wrote on my facebook post, "You??"
Yeah.  Me.

I've been thinking about it for six years.
I finally decided that if after six years, I still wanted it, maybe it was time.

The writing is Dave and Doug's.
Taken from notes they wrote me.
They always signed their notes the same way.

I thought I was doing it in memory of them.
To mark the way they are always on my heart.
To have a visible reminder.
A permanent keepsake,
always with me.

And while it is that.
It is also more.

I didn't realize it,
until afterwards.

It's a marker.
A closing of a chapter.
Closure, if you will.

I don't know how to explain it.
The minute it was finished,
I knew.
I knew something inside me was different.

and to a lesser extent,
have been part of my every thought
every day
for over 10 years.

Daryl saw the Dali Lama this summer.
One thing he learned:
Interrogate your truth.

I've been thinking about that a lot.

Interrogate implies a…

So I had my first Walla Walla goodbyes.
The first was my eye doctor, Dr. Poffenroth.
He's taken care of my eyes for 25 years.
He's more than just an eye doctor.  He's a caring person and a friend.
As I left my last appointment, he handed me a card with a referral to a friend of his who practices in Port Angeles.
I looked at the card.
And realized...I won't see him again.

I've been living in a bit of denial.
I know.  Big surprise.

With all the excitement and chaos of moving,
And all the stress of living in limbo,
I somehow missed that I'd be leaving some things
some people

I know I'll be back often.
To see my kids and the new grandbaby,
friends and family.
This fact allowed me to forget...
there are some I won't see.

Even though we promise to keep in touch,
Life has a way of getting busy.
Good intentions and all that.

I  have written many times about Walla Walla.
It's a magical place.
Safe, nurturing.
I never thought I'd leave.

August Blog Challenge - Day 7

What is your dream job and why?

I have my dream job.  I really do.

I work at Walla Walla Community College.  It's the best community college in the nation according to the Aspen Institute.

And it is. It really is.

I went to a private university.  A pretty snobby, pretentious one. I thought the community college would somehow be "less" than a university.

I was so wrong.

This place is filled with dynamic, passionate, intelligent people.  And these people care so much about the students they serve. I am continually awed by the caliber of learning and the depth of compassion I see every day.

And I get to be a part of it.

The work I do is hard. But I have a partner.  Daryl.  He's my sanity.  He keeps me grounded.  He's brilliant and insightful and he fills my work days with unconditional love.  We support each other. We talk and connect every day, sustaining each other in ways that go far beyond the surface.  We grow together as people and as therapists.  We fight b…
